CHICAGO — Governor DeSantis issued an official state proclamation this week declaring a two-day holiday in honor of a visiting K-pop group, praising, by the power vested in his office, the band's commitment to self-love, mental-health awareness and global philanthropy.

The state's tallest tower will glow purple for the occasion, fans will gather at the fountain, and Governor DeSantis will preside over all of it with the full ceremonial gravity a governor can bring to a boy band's tour schedule.

The Press supports self-love and mental-health awareness without reservation, and merely observes that the same proclamation, over the other party's signature and a different genre, would be filed by half the state under pandering and by the other half under leadership, on a schedule that rotates with the charts.

The Press's proclamation desk notes that an official holiday for a sold-out concert is either a warm civic embrace of joy or a governor chasing a demographic with the state seal, depending entirely on whose seal it is, and that the ink is exactly as purple in both readings.

"This is about more than a concert," an organizer said, correctly, of a document timed precisely to a concert.

At press time the proclamation lay sealed with ribbon and heart stickers, the skyline stood ready to turn purple, and the state stood, briefly, in formation.

What actually happened: Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker declared Aug. 27-28 'BTS Day' in Illinois, timed to the K-pop group's sold-out Soldier Field concerts, with a proclamation praising the band's commitment to 'mental health awareness, self-love and global philanthropy.' Willis Tower will be lit purple both nights, with fan gatherings around Chicago.
